Colona

Pathway of Opportunity

The City of Colona is a progressive community with a vision for its future.  It is the 3rd largest community in Henry County.  The Village of Colona and the City of Green Rock merged in 1997, making it the first merged community in the history of Iliinois.

Keeping its small town atmosphere, Colona is at the eastern gateway to the Quad Cities.  Ideally located, I-74 and I-80 intersect in Colona as well as the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and the Iowa Interstate Railroad.  Additionally, US Hwy 6 and IL Hwy 84 are key travel arteries through Colona.

Colona has 3 TIF districts (see Zoning Map @ right), an industrial park and open land for commercial, industrial and residential development within its borders.  See our Available Sites and Buildings list.

Quality of life is important to Colona residents.  The crown jewel of Colona is the Hennepin Canal State Parkway which runs through Colona and features the Green Rock Memorial Bike Path.  Hiking, biking, fishing and snowmobiling are allowed and the Canal Parkway features pavilions, picnic benches, playgrounds, ball diamonds, a gazebo and permanent restrooms.
