Proclaimed the Chief Crossroads of Illinois, Annawan, population 900, is located at the intersection of Route 6 and Route 78 and adjacent to Interstate 80. The rail and the major interstate highway system have perpetuated the town’s growth. The community has actively pursued economic development, creating the Annawan Economic Development Corporation, a TIF district and an Industrial Park in 2006. New businesses include a 100,000-gallon ethanol plant, a convention-banquet facility, gas station, and retirement village. In 2006 the downtown infrastructure was completely renovated. The Village collaborates with the County and State to provide incentives for business expansion and development in Annawan.
